Reading – Children take part in daily fluency reading as well as accessing whole class reading or guided reading sessions every day. We usually read together as a class as well as giving the children time to listen to others read, question and be questioned about what they have read and how the author has written in a certain way.
How can you support your child’s learning?
Spellings – Spelling lists will be handed out each half term, these will be retested at the start of the next half termPlease help your child to practise and extend their learning by practising these.
Reading at Home – Hearing your child reading every day will have a huge impact on all areas of their learning. Reading is part of your child’s homework and they have a challenge to read at least four times a week. Can you please listen to your child read for at least 15 minutes every day and make a note in your reading journal. This doesn’t just have to be their reading book- they could read a recipe whilst cooking, read a newspaper or even read a story to a younger sibling. Please ensure reading records are returned to school everyday. This will help us ensure they are reading either at home or in school everyday on top of their guided reading sessions.
