Full days: 8:50 am until 3:20 pm.
We have creative curriculum activities, linking all subjects around our theme for the term which is World War Two.
Reading – Children take part in guided reading and a reading activity session every day. We usually read together as a class as well as giving the children time to listen to others read, question and be questioned about what they have read and how the author has written in a certain way. We will start the new term reading Michael Morpurgo’s Friend or Foe which is linked to our theme for the term.
Homework – Reading is part of your child’s homework and they have a challenge to read their home reading books at least five times a week. Please would you listen to your child read so that you can ask him/her comprehension questions and help them improve their understanding and fluency? We would be grateful if you could then write a note in their planner to say they have read to you. Please ensure reading records are returned to school everyday. This will help us ensure they are reading either at home or in school everyday on top of their guided reading sessions.
Spellings – Spelling lists will be handed out each half term, these will be retested at the start of the next half term. The spelling list is in place of weekly spellings and will be taught and practised in school. However, please do encourage your child to practise their spellings at home also.
Useful websites to help your child:
Lots and lots of games to look through that use a range of Maths and Literacy skills.
A range of reading comprehensions to develop both fluency and comprehension skills.
If you have any queries about anything that is happening in class, please pop in to see us. Hopefully, we will be able to help you then or arrange a time when we can discuss any issues with you that will need longer time.
