Full days: 8:50 am until 3:20 pm.
Children take part in daily fluency reading as well as accessing whole class reading or guided reading sessions every day. We usually read together as a class as well as giving the children time to listen to others read, question and be questioned about what they have read and how the author has written in a certain way.
How can you support your child’s learning?
Please help your child to practise and extend their learning by practising their Year 3 and Year 4 spelling sheets which will be tested termly. Hearing your child reading every day will have a huge impact on all areas of their learning. Can you please listen to your child read for at least 15 minutes every day and make a note in your reading journal. This doesn’t just have to be their reading book- they could read a recipe whilst cooking, read a newspaper or even read a story to a younger sibling.
Home reading books. Reading is part of your child’s homework and they have a challenge to read at least four times a week. Please, would you listen to your child read so that you can ask him/her comprehension questions and help them improve their understanding and fluency? We would be grateful if you could then write a note in their planner to say they have read to you. Please ensure reading records are returned to school everyday. This will help us ensure they are reading either at home or in school everyday on top of their guided reading sessions.
Spellings – Spelling lists will be handed out each half term, these will be retested at the start of the next half term, in place of weekly spellings as these will be taught and practised in school.
Useful websites to help your child:
Lots and lots of games to look through that use a range of Maths and Literacy skills.
A range of reading comprehensions to develop both fluency and comprehension skills.
If you have any queries about anything that is happening in class, please pop in to see us. Hopefully, we will be able to help you then or arrange a time when we can discuss any issues with you that will need longer time.
