Our theme for the term is Reach for Greatness and our reading, writing and topic sessions will be based on this.
Reading – Reading remains core to all learning and is used to drive our topic. We shall be focusing on ‘reading to learn’ and looking at a number of non-fiction texts in order to find out more about volcanoes, earthquakes and forces. As well as this we will be looking at extracts from the biographies of inspirational people such as Muhammed Ali, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Recommended reads linked to topic:
Home reading books are available from the school and can be changed by the children at any time. Reading is part of your child’s homework and they have a challenge to read at least five times a week for 20 minutes. Please, would you listen to your child read so that you can ask him/her questions and help them improve their understanding and fluency? We would be grateful if you could then write a note and sign this in their reading record to say they have read to you or another adult.
Homework – Children will be expected to show that they have read for at least 20 minutes from Monday to Friday. They can either ask an adult to sign that they have read or write a summary sentence to show their understanding.
Spellings – Each child has a personalised spelling list and these will be practised and tested daily in class.
We will be more than happy to answer any questions that you might have about any of the above, just catch us at the door or make an appointment.
