  • Daily phonic sessions.
  • Chromebook sessions on a Tuesday.
  • Creative curriculum sessions on a Monday and Thursday.
  • Daily circle time sessions where we play games and talk about our feelings.
  • Key Stage One Assembly on a Friday afternoon.

During other afternoons, we have creative curriculum activities, linking all subjects around our theme for the term.

Reading – Children take part in guided reading and reading activity session every day. We usually read together as a class as well as giving the children time to listen to others read, question and be questioned about what they have read and how the author has written in a certain way. We have recently been reading stories by our favourite author, Francesca Simon. We also fit in time to read different stories over the week!

Home reading books are changed regularly on a Monday and a Friday. We really encourage reading at home and celebrate home reading by handing out certificates in our weekly Key Stage One assembly. Reading is part of your child’s homework and they have a challenge to read at least five times a week. Please, would you listen to your child read so that you can ask him/her comprehension questions and help them improve their understanding and fluency?  We would be grateful if you could then write a note in their planner to say they have read to you.

Homework – Homework is to read regularly at home, every night and to practice spellings every week. Sometimes, we will send home a Project linked to our Learning Challenge theme.

Spellings – Spellings will also be given out on a Thursday and tested the following Thursday.
