During other afternoons, we have creative curriculum activities, linking all subjects around our theme for the term which is World War One.
Reading – Reading is such a fundamental part of children’s education and is an area that we are increasing our focus on next year. Children take part in whole class guided reading and an adult-led group reading session every day. We will start the new tern reading Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse to give the children another quality text to enjoy and give some extra insight into live at this time.
Home reading books are available from the school and can be changed by the children at any time. Reading is part of your child’s homework and they have a challenge to read at least five times a week. Please, would you listen to your child read so that you can ask him/her questions and help them improve their understanding and fluency? We would be grateful if you could then write a note in their planner to say they have read to you.
Homework – Children will be expected to show that they have read for at least 20 minutes from Mondays to Thursdays. They can either ask an adult to sign that they have read or write a summary sentence to show their understanding.
They will also receive 4 maths questions every day that will be checked on the following morning.
Spellings – Spellings will also be given out on a Friday and tested the following Thursday.
If you have any queries about anything that is happening in class, please pop in to see us. Hopefully, we will be able to help you then or arrange a time when we can discuss any issues with you that will need longer time.
